Which score band applies?

These are editorial decision bands, not peer percentiles or measured probabilities of success.

Score What the band means Recommended next step
0–14 Diagnose before selecting a solution. Basic ownership, acceptance or measurement is missing. Map the current workflow, define acceptance and establish an initial cost-and-rework baseline. Avoid a volume commitment based on this evidence.
15–26 Build the procurement evidence. Some foundations exist, but the comparison is not yet decision-ready. Close critical gates and the weakest domain. Prepare a common scope, baseline and evidence request before inviting comparable proposals.
27–36 Candidate for a controlled pilot. You have enough structure to test a specific hypothesis, subject to the conditions below. Run a bounded pilot with substantive carrier review, matched economics and explicit stop conditions. Do not treat this band as permission to scale.
37–45 Candidate for a commercial decision. Preparation is strong, but purchase or expansion still depends on demonstrated results and approvals. If pilot and deployment evidence meet the conditions below, consider staged purchase or expansion. Otherwise use the score to proceed with—not bypass—the pilot.

Which conditions override the total?

Apply these after calculating the raw score. Do not subtract points or average away a failed gate.

  1. Critical-control hold: If Question 2, 7, 10 or 11 scores 0 or 1, our recommendation is no live-file pilot under the proposed workflow until the gap is resolved and the relevant owner approves it. Synthetic or otherwise approved non-production work can support remediation.
  2. Measurement hold: If Question 3 or 13 scores 0 or 1, the project is not ready for a decision-grade economic comparison. Complete the baseline and protocol first.
  3. Purchase/expansion condition: Our proposed threshold is 37 or more, all four critical gates at least 2, Question 12 at least 2, and Questions 13 and 15 both at 3. Demonstrate any still design-only critical control on the actual route before scaling.
  4. Approval condition: The quiz never replaces procurement, security, legal, claims or other required approvals. Any unresolved material issue can justify a hold regardless of points.

Illustrative result: A team scoring 39/45 but 0 on claims authority receives a critical-control hold, not a purchase-ready recommendation.
