Regulatory news and changes

Washington’s reporting trigger includes subsequent investigation or adjustment, not just the first closure event.

What new reporting requirement should Washington fire-claim teams check?

OIC says the requirement applies to specified fire claims closing or subsequently investigated or adjusted on or after 1 January 2026, with reports generally due within 90 days of the relevant event. The first annual attestation is due 31 December 2026. (insurance.wa.gov)

The requirement covers authorised insurers writing relevant commercial and personal lines. OIC states that insurers already reporting through ISO ClaimSearch do not need separate OIC fire-loss reports or attestations. Verify that route before creating duplicate reporting work. (insurance.wa.gov)

Recommended production control: include closure, reopening and subsequent-adjustment events in the hand-off specification. Test whether a supplement generated by a production supplier reaches the carrier’s reporting owner, rather than remaining only in the estimating system.
